1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Yea or Nay ("the Service"), available at yeaornay.org, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Yea or Nay is a free civic engagement platform that allows users to browse US Congressional bills, cast their own yea or nay votes, and compare their positions against the actual votes of their elected representatives. The Service is designed to promote informed civic participation.

3. User Accounts

To use the Service, you must create an account by providing a valid email address and password. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account.

You agree to provide accurate information during registration, including your ZIP code, which is used to identify your congressional representatives. You may optionally enable two-factor authentication (TOTP) for additional account security.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
  • Create multiple accounts to manipulate data or circumvent restrictions
  • Use automated tools to scrape or harvest data from the Service
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity

5. Intellectual Property

Yea or Nay is an open-source project. The source code is available under its respective license. Congressional bill data is sourced from the public domain via the Congress.gov API. The Yea or Nay name, logo, and branding are the property of the project maintainers.

6. Data Disclaimer

The Service displays congressional bill information and representative voting records sourced from publicly available government APIs, including the Congress.gov API. While we strive for accuracy, this data is provided for informational purposes only and should not be considered official government records. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the United States government.

Vote tallies, bill statuses, and representative information may be delayed or incomplete. Always refer to Congress.gov for authoritative information.

7. Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Yea or Nay and its maintainers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service.

8. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these terms or for any other reason at our discretion. You may delete your account at any time through your profile settings. Upon deletion, your personal data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

9. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.

10. Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved in accordance with applicable federal and state law.
